How to Design an Industrial Steel Building for Your Business
Whether you’re looking to get a new steel warehouse for your business or a cattle shed for your farm in Powys, it’s important to understand the process of designing a steel building. From knowing the right dimensions to customising the look and layout, this post will give you an overview of the process our steel fabricators use when designing new steel buildings in Powys.
Step OneL Choose the Right Size
Before we look at the layout and customisation, we need to understand the size requirements and limitations of your new steel building. The size will depend on a few key factors, including:
- What you plan on using the steel structure for
- How much land you have to dedicate to the new structure
- Your budget
In general, the width is the smallest dimension of an industrial steel building. This is the gable end of the building and is a clear span that requires no support. We usually work with widths up to 20 metres.
The length is the longest dimension and can be customised to fit your needs and budget.
Finally, the height is measured from the bottom of the wall to the eave. The height will also vary depending on whether you are looking for a single-storey or multi-storey steel building.
Step Two: Choose the Roof Style
There are two main types of roof you can have on your steel building: pitched roof and mono-sloped roof.
A pitched roof is the most common type. It has vertical sheeting, which is incredibly strong and durable, and requires the least amount of maintenance. Vertical roofs also have a ridged cap which helps redirect heavy rain and snow.
A mono-sloped roof slopes from one side of a building to another. You might also know this style as a “lean-to roof”. If you’re looking to add a steel structure to an existing building, this is the most budget-friendly option.
Step Three: Choose the Colour and Layout
We have plenty of customisation options when it comes to our bespoke steel buildings. We can coat the exterior in any colour to match your branding or existing buildings, and we’ll work alongside you to ensure you get the most functional internal layout.
Step Four: Choose Doors & Windows
We offer a range of industrial doors and windows to finish off all of our steel buildings. Whether you need a roller door for vehicle access, security doors, or large-scale garage doors, we can manufacture the perfect solution.
We also take care of windows, internal plastering, guttering, and all those finishing touches that give you a usable steel building that’s ready to go.
